Manchester United’s hero of the night Scott McTominay praised head coach Erik Ten Hag after the Red Devils’ much-needed 2-1 victory against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

McTominay started his seventh Premier League (PL) game of the season and Scott sure didn’t disappoint his boss and scored all two goals that took the struggling United side over the line.

The 26-year-old opened the scoring in the 19th minute but Cole Palmer’s 45th-minute strike equalised the game. It looked the game would end the same way but McTominay broke the deadlock in the 69th minute as he headed the ball home on Alejandro Garnacho’s cross.

After their horror show at St James’ Park during the weekend, Man United needed a secure a win and McTominay believed that they did exactly that.

"I thought we started really, really well in the game," McTominay told Prime Video. "Obviously, the fans were really happy with the way we started and reacted after a pretty abysmal display against Newcastle, to be honest.

"All the boys were so upset with how we coped with that game, it wasn't anywhere near good enough. To come here tonight and win was a plus, and it's something we can build on."

He then went on to appreciate Ten Hag for keeping the training session light as it helped the players save energy which came useful against Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

"The manager, to be honest with you, in the way that we approached the game. There have been a lot of light training sessions to keep the energy, to keep fresh and to obviously go to the next game, as obviously they come really thick and fast.

"For us, it is a night that we should be really happy with and one that we can build on."

It is worth mentioning that United last lost to Chelsea at Old Trafford in May 2013 and they have been unbeaten since then, five wins and six draws.
